{"id":582155,"date":"2023-08-27T09:47:27","date_gmt":"2023-08-27T08:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/?p=582155"},"modified":"2023-08-27T09:47:27","modified_gmt":"2023-08-27T08:47:27","slug":"junior-shield-academy-66-donaghadee-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.thefrontrowunion.com\/frusport\/?p=582155","title":{"rendered":"Junior Shield: Academy 66 Donaghadee 0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Academy kicked of their season with a big win in the Junior Shield Group 3 match against Donaghadee at Roughfort on Friday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">With the nights starting to draw in I only covered the first half of this game but there was plenty of action as Academy racked up a 26 &#8211; 0 lead in an impressive performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The home team got off to a good start with No 8 <strong>Stuart Martin <\/strong>crashing over for an early try, converted by <strong>Michael Wilson<\/strong>, for a 7 &#8211; 0 lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/20230825-Academy-v-Donaghadee-John-McMurtry-032-1-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-582157\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The impressive Stuart Martin crashes over for the opening try for Academy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Dee looked to regroup and applied some pressure in the Academy half but the home side&#8217;s defence held firm and after licking their way upfield they added a second try nine minutes later as <strong>Zac Burton<\/strong> sprinted clear to finish under the posts. Wilson&#8217;s conversion took  the score to 14 &#8211; 0 on the quarter hour mark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/20230825-Academy-v-Donaghadee-John-McMurtry-126-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-582158\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Academy&#8217;s Zac Burton heads for the line after a midfield break. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Dee contributed well to an entertaining first half but they coughed up the ball too often in the Academy red zone and a late burst from the home side decided the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Conor Spence crossed for Academy ten minutes before the break as he finished off a charge from   <strong>Adam Keed<\/strong> and with Wilson adding the extras the score now read 21 &#8211; 0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/20230825-Academy-v-Donaghadee-John-McMurtry-208-1-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-582161\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Conor Spence slides over for Academy&#8217;s third. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Just before half time a break down the right ended with <strong>Aaron Heatley<\/strong> squeezing over in the corner to take the score to 26 &#8211; 0 as the teams changed ends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/20230825-Academy-v-Donaghadee-John-McMurtry-261-1-800x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-582165\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Aaron Heatley squeezed over in the corner for the final score of the first half. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The light dropped rapidly after half time and with the ISO shooting up I called it a day about five minutes in to the second half. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Academy went over for another try just as I left and it appears that it was one way traffic as they added six in total in the second half, five converted, for a final score of Academy 66 Donaghadee 0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-1-800x800.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-582156\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\">Match gallery<\/h2>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Academy kicked of their season with a big win in the Junior Shield Group 3 match against Donaghadee at Roughfort on Friday night.
