{"id":594919,"date":"2023-09-26T10:05:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T09:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/?p=594919"},"modified":"2023-09-26T10:05:16","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T09:05:16","slug":"women-all-ireland-ulster-university-elks-3-monkstown-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.thefrontrowunion.com\/frusport\/?p=594919","title":{"rendered":"Women All Ireland: Ulster University Elks 3 Monkstown 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The Ulster University Elks welcomed Monkstown to the Ulster University Sports Village on Saturday afternoon for their first fixture in the Women&#8217;s All Ireland League. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">After a busy pre-season the Elks were keen to make a strong start but it was Monkstown who opened the scoring with captain <strong>Chloe Watkins<\/strong> netting a penalty stroke after a clash in the D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230923-Elks-v-Monkstown-Ruby-Starrett-020-1-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-594931\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Monkstown&#8217;s captain Chloe Watkins opens the scoring from a penalty stroke against the Elks. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The visitors continued to push forward throughout the first quarter but there was no further score and Elks went into the second quarter chasing a one goal deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">A penalty corner at the start of the second quarter saw the Elks pull it back to 1 &#8211; 1 as  <strong>Serena Campuzano<\/strong> converted with a reverse stick from out wide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230923-Elks-v-Monkstown-Ruby-Starrett-179-1-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-594933\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Elks Serena Campuzano tied the game 1 &#8211; 1 at the start of the second quarter. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The home side were now finding their form and a well worked attack at the end of the second quarter ended with captain <strong>Beth Harper<\/strong> getting the final touch to take the score to 2 &#8211; 1 as the teams changed ends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-style-default wp-duotone-unset-1\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefrontrowunion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/20230923-Elks-v-Monkstown-Ruby-Starrett-160-1-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-594935\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beth Harper put Elks in front at the end of the first half. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">A tight third quarter remained goalless and the teams went into the final quarter with just the one score in it.
