Our trip to Shaw’s Bridge on Saturday gave us the chance to catch up with another of our featured clubs as Academy 2nd XV made the trip to play Cooke 2nd XV in a junior friendly match.
It was another high scoring game with 9 tries though this one evenly contested.
Cooke took an early lead through hooker Tom Donnan, converted by Ollie McKibben, before Academy pulled it back to 7 – 7 with a converted try by Andrew Greer.
The teams continued to swap tries as Donnan crossed for his second for Cooke and prop Matthew Alexander for Academy’s second try, but it was Cooke who took a lead into the break with Gavin Morrison crossing just before half time.
Cooke score first in the second half with Matthew Gowen scoring shortly after resumption but a storming second half from Academy saw Henry George, Elliott Donaldson and Ben Brown all crossed to give Academy a 26 – 31 win at the final whistle.
