Women All Ireland: Pegasus 0 Loreto 4

South Dublin based Loreto travelled to Upper Malone, Saturday lunchtime to play Pegasus in the first round of fixtures in the Women’s All Ireland League.

Rachel Kelly scored a brace of 1st quarter goals for Loreto

Pegasus were hit cold from push back. In the 1st minute, long through ball found Rachel Kelly, who found the Pegasus net, only for it to be disallowed. In the 4th minute a similar ball found Kelly again, who this time made no mistake, to put Loreto 1-0 up.

Pegasus defended high up the pitch and were caught again by a through ball, dispatched by Kelly in the 10thminute. Loreto led 2-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

A scoreless quarter followed and though Pegasus won penalty corners they could not make their way through a robust Loreto defence. Loreto led 2-0 at halftime.

Siofra O’Brien added Loretta’s 3rd goal

Siofra O’Brien’s 37th minute goal from open play gave Loreto a 3-0 3rd quarter lead.

Elizabeth Murphy made a string of 4th quarter saves to preserve her goal

Loreto settled the game in the 53rd minute, from a Caoimhe Perdue strike to lead 4-0. Pegasus sought a consolation goal. Elizabeth Murphy made a series of stops to preserve her goal to give Loreto a very comfortable and well deserved 4-0 win on the road.
