I caught up with the Junior 2 clash between Larne HC 2nd XI and Ulster University Elks HC II at Larne Grammar on Friday evening.
It was a lively and enjoyable game, much closer than the scoreline would indicate with both sides keen to push forward.
Elks opened the scoring at the end of an even first quarter with Ellie Boyd finding the net just before the break.

Larne hit back from a penalty corner strike from Erin Millar at the start of the second quarter which tied the game at 1 – 1 as the teams changed ends at half time
Elks driving force, their experienced captain, Chloe Stewart put the Elks ahead 1 – 2 in the third quarter but Larne continued to push forward with Brooke Black seeing plenty of ball up front supported by some driving runs from Anna Campbell.

However, the experienced Elks’ side showed their class in the final quarter with Nieve Calwell bagging their third before Stewart netted her second to take the score to 1 – 4.
With Larne committed to all out attack, SJ Jameson added a fifth for the Elks in the final moments to give the visitors a 1 – 5 win.
