I caught up with Annadale and Banbridge 2nd XI’s at Campbell College on Saturday lunchtime in a Junior 1 clash. It’s the first time I’ve covered hockey at Campbell, it’s a nice tidy setting and I’m sure I’ll be back.
As it was early Saturday afternoon I was only able to cover the first three quarters, but the die was pretty much cast by the time I left.

It was a pretty tight first quarter, Banbridge made plenty of forward runs but they were well handled by the Annadale defence and the home side created their own chances on the break.

The second quarter was fairly similar with the exception of a late goal from Banbridge’s Jake Rainer right on the stroke of half time which saw the visitors take a 0 – 1 lead into the break.
Banbridge won the game with three goals in the third quarter.
David Gallagher was first on target about three minutes into the second half and the energetic Rainer added his second five minutes later.
A strike from John McCague two minutes after that pretty much wrapped up the game with Banbridge now leading 0 – 4 as the teams went into the final quarter.

Banbridge added two more after I left with James Evans and Matthew Stevenson getting the goals to give Banbridge a 0 – 6 win in the opening round of Junior 1.
