EuroHockey Championship II Men: Ireland 7 Ukraine 0

On Tuesday Round 2 games of the EuroHockey Championship II Men’s took place at the National Sports Centre, in Abbotstown, Co Dublin. Ireland, who had beaten the Czech Republic 9-0, faced Ukraine, 6-3 victors over Portugal.

After a very cagey, scoreless 1^st quarter, Ireland took a 2^nd quarter lead from Shane O’Donoghue’s 23^rdminute strike. Lee Cole doubled the lead in the 30^th minute to give Ireland a 2-0 halftime lead.

Ireland took control in the 2^nd half O’Donoghue’s 34^th minute goal made it 3-0, before Cole’s penalty stroke on 44 minutes gave Ireland a 4-0 3^rd quarter lead.

Cole’s 56^th minute penalty stroke put Ireland 5-0 up, before Conor Empey converted a penalty corner after 58 minutes. Benjamin Walker’s 59^th minute strike, from open play, completed the scoring on a very emphatic 7-0 victory.
