EuroHockey Championship II Men: Czech Republic 4 Portugal 3

On Tuesday Round 2 games of the EuroHockey Championship II Men’s took place at the National Sports Centre, in Abbotstown, Co Dublin. The Czech Republic, who had lost 0-9 to Ireland faced Portugal, who had lost 3-6 to Ukraine, in Round 1 games.

Portugal took control from push back and took the lead, after only 5 minutes, from a Rodrigo Castro strike.  Portugal dominated proceedings but couldn’t convert their dominance into goals, from many chances. They led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Ondrej Hes equalised for the Czech Republic

Somewhat against the run of play Ondrej Hes equalised for the Czechs in the 17th minute. The first half ended 1-1.

In the 37th minute the Czech Republic took the lead when Jakub Klaban scored from open play. Two minutes later Castro equalised for Portugal to bring the score back to 2-2.

On 41 minutes Lukas Plochy restored the Czech’s lead at 3-2, which completed the 3rd quarter scoring.

Portuguese Captain, David Franco, has an opportunity on goal

Tiago Ventosa equalised for Portugal after 48 minutes. With time running out Plokhy found the winner for the Czechs on 58 minutes. The Czech Republic held out for a very entertaining 4-3 victory.
