We caught up with the Final of the 2023 Men’s EuroHockey Championship II held at The National Sports Centre, Dublin on Saturday.
It was a hugely successful tournament for the Irish side who ended the competition as undefeated champions.

Ireland came from behind in the final of the EuroHockey Championship II 2023 for Men in Dublin on Saturday against the tournament surprise package Ukraine.

Ireland took the lead through an early Shane O’Donoghue penalty corner, Ukraine then took a 1-2 lead with goals from Oleksandr Boiko and Viacheslav Paziuk.

It remained that way until early the fourth quarter when captain Sean Murray got a brace to take Ireland into a 3-2 lead to settle the Irish nerves, a further goal Benjamin Walker and a late Lee Cole penalty stroke made the final score 5-2.

Ireland took all the individual prizes also with Davy Harte named goal keeper of the tournament, Lee Cole finishing top goal scorer with 9 goals and helped by his superb performance in the final the Irish captain was named player of the tournament.
