On Friday, in the early afternoon, Ulster U18 Clubs faced the USA’s Eagle Impact Rugby Academy, at Newforge Country Club, in South Belfast, in one of the last two games, in EIRA’s tour of Ireland.

Ulster started, as though they meant business, with rucks and driving mauls sucking in EIRA defenders. Conor McVicker sniped round the side of a ruck to score after 5 minutes. His conversion put Ulster 7-0 up. Cameron Cummings try after 12 minutes moved the score along to 12-0.

Occasional EIRA forays into the Ulster half were repulsed, as Ulster continued to dominate. Tries by Frank Davis, on 21 minutes and Ryan Hannah, on 29 minutes, both converted by McVicker, put Ulster up 26-0 at the break.

Tom McGilloway crashed over, after 40 minutes, for a try converted by McVicker, for a 33-0 lead. Tom Bell’s try, on 45 minutes, converted by McVicker, made it 40-0.
To their credit EIRA began to find ball and territory. Devon Hyde’s 54th minute try, followed by Geno McKenna’s try on 62 minutes, both converted by Malan Graham, pulled the score back to 14-40.
Ulster had the last say with Jake Woods’ 70th minute try, converted by Josh Colville, for a 47-14 victory.
Ulster were ruthless in their victory. EIRA never gave up and their much improved second half performance yielded a couple of tries.
