Interprovincial Friendly: Ulster U18 0 Connacht U18 29

I made the trip to Enniskillen on Saturday to catch the U18 Girls Interprovincial friendly between Ulster and Connacht as the teams get ready for the Interpro Series starting this Saturday.

The match was played over 3 periods of 25 minutes immediately after a heavy downpour.

Ulster were slow out of the blocks in the first period with poor handling and a rugged defence from Connacht keeping them pinned in their own half.

Connacht turned the pressure into points with two tries from theri impressive No 8 Roisin Power either side of a try from their fullback Emily Foley to give Connacht a 0 – 17 lead with Jemma Lees adding a conversion.

The second period was much tighter with Ulster enjoying a sustained period of pressure on the connacht line.

Unfortunately for the home side it was Connacht who went further ahead with a break out try by Ailbhe Gannon to take the score to 0 – 24 in Connachts favour after the conversion.

The teams battled out an even final period but it was Connacht that found the try line with their impressive out half Lees squeezing over out wide to give a final score of Ulster 0 Connacht 29 leaving Ulster to rue their error strewn first period.

Connacht’s Jemma Lees squeezes in out wide for the final try of the game.
