On Saturday afternoon, at Newforge, Ulster U18 Schools faced Munster U18 Schools in the first game in the Interprovincial Championships.

With an initial Ulster surge repulsed Munster took the lead following a lineout maul. Conor Galvin’s score put Munster 5-0 up, after 4 minutes.
Defences were on top for the rest of the half. Both teams created scoring chances but were met with robust defences. Munster led 5-0 at halftime.
The 2nd half was only 4 minutes old, when Harry Murphy darted through a gap to score under the posts. His conversion moved Munster out to 12-0. Munster attacked from the restart and created a gap for Murphy to scythe through a static Ulster defence to score close to the posts. His conversion gave Munster a 19-0 lead.
Ulster responded and spent time in the Munster 22. A loose ball was gathered by Munster and Leo O’Leary ran in from distance to dot down under the posts. Murphy’s conversion gave Munster a commanding 26-0 lead after 56 minutes.

Ulster rallied and gained a consolation try, through Loughlin Sweeney. Frank Davis’ conversion, as time ran out, gave Munster a comfortable 26-7 victory on the road.
