Larne Grammar welcomed Carrickfergus Grammar to Lower Cairncastle Road late Wednesday afternoon for an early season squad hit out.

Larne had the advantage of an extended practice session before Carrick arrived and the home team were quick off the mark in the first period. Charlie Patterson opened the scoring with a long distance run in before out half Ethan Duncan crossed a few minutes later. Duncan converted both to take the score to 14 – 0 to Larne.

Carrick had a sustained period of possession but Larne defended strongly and a breakout ended with Charlie Wilson diving over for Larne’s third to be quickly followed by Jonny Dallas for their fourth. Duncan converted both to push the score along to 28 – 0 at the end of the first period.

The visitors had a strong second period and they worked a sustained period of pressure on the Larne defence. However, Larne scored the only try of the 2nd period with Reuben Marsden finishing off a break by Dallas for Luke Farquar to convert to push the score along to 35 – 0.
Larne added three more in the third and final period with Chris Shaw and Reese Renwick crossing before Patterson ended the game as he started it with a second fine solo effort. Duncan converted one for a final score of Larne 52 Carrick 0.
