2nd XV League: Queen’s University II 29 Banbridge II 7

On Saturday lunchtime Queen’s University II entertained Banbridge II in the 2nd XV League, as the 1st part of a double header at The Dub, Upper Malone.

Harry McKibben grabbed a brace of tries for Queens

Queens took an early 4th minute lead, through a Harry McKibben try, in the left corner for a 5-0 lead. In the 15th minute they doubled their lead when Matthew Curry cantered in from deep to dot down on the left. Queens continued to dominate, and it was no surprise when Curry added his 2nd try after 31 minutes. Alex McBurney’s conversion made it 17-0 to Queens.

Queens seemed to relax coming up to the break. Sam Patteron found a gap, in the Queens defence to run in from 30 metres. Denis Kerr’s conversion reduced Queens lead to 17-7 at halftime.

Matthew Curry scores the 1st of his hat trick of tries

Defences were on top in the next quarter before McKibben grabbed his 2nd try on 60 minutes. McBurney’s conversion put Queens out to 24-7.

Banbridge could make little headway against a determined Queens defence. Curry claimed his hat trick with a 71st minute try in the left corner and a 29-7 lead.

There was no further scoring in a comprehensive bonus point win for Queens.
