Dromore High welcomed Royal School Dungannon for a 1st XI Superleague match on a bright and fresh early morning start at Ferris Park.

The opening quarter was dominated by the home team with plenty of possession and attacking intent, but with only a few chances on goal. The best of the few chances created fell to Dromore’s Caroline Cunningham, bringing a fine right-footed save from Laura Birnie in the RSD goal to keep the scores level.

The second quarter started much the same, but a breakaway by RSD saw centre midfielder Lucy Redmond give RSD a one goal lead against the run of play. 0-1.

The goal seemed to give RSD a bit more confidence, and they started to get more possession towards the end of the half.
HALF-TIME 0-1
The second half opened brightly for RSD, again seeming to be more on the front foot than they had been in most of the first half. A short corner saw Lucy Redmond once again provide a neat finish and give RSD a two goal lead, perhaps leaving the home team feeling they should have made more of their dominance in the first half. 0-2.
Dromore heads didn’t drop though and they enjoyed a bit more possession, making the third quarter an even-enough affair in terms of possession and attacking forays.

The feeling was that Dromore really needed to get a goal back early in the 4th quarter to stand a chance of taking something from the game and that seemed to be the plan with increased pressure on the away team. Following an attack, a short corner led to Holly Stewart getting one back for the home team and give Dromore hope of just that. 1-2.
Far from trying to protect what they had RSD continued to make forward runs and a nice break by Lucy Redmond, culminated in RSD’s Hannah Herron restoring the visitors’ two goal advantage, much to the delight of her teammates. 1-3.

7 minutes later and another long piercing run by Lucy Redmond, saw her rack up her hat-trick in a well-deserved player of the match performance, and wrap it up for RSD. 1-4.
Far from what the scoreline might suggest, Dromore defenders Charlotte Bradfield and Caroline Cunningham had notably good performances for the home team, among others.
