1st XI Superleague: Royal School Armagh 3 Friends School Lisburn 0

We caught up with The Royal School Armagh and Friends’ School Lisburn on Thursday afternoon for a rearranged 1st XI Superleague Pool 1 match at College Hill.

After the previous days excesses it was quite a pleasant afternoon for some top class hockey and the teams didn’t disappoint.

Friends enjoyed a strong start to the game though Armagh looked to be getting on top towards the end of the first quarter with Daisy Nicholson and Annie Cunningham prominent for the home team.

Daisy Nicholson had a strong game for Armagh

The energetic duo combined for the opening score at the start of the second quarter with Nicholson driving in from the left to tee up Annie Cunningham for a tap in to open the scoring.

Friends looked for a response at the start of the second half but the relentless workrate from Armagh gave the visitors no respite and another driving run from the dynamic Nicholson ended with a lovely finish from Grace McCool to take the score to 3 – 0 mid way through the third quarter.

Grace McCool slots in Armagh’s third.

The visitors came storming forward throughout the final quarter with some nice plays down both flanks but the resolute Armagh defence held firm for a 3 – 0 win which should put them in charge of Pool 1.
