Banbridge welcomed Glenanne to Havelock Park on Saturday afternoon for a All Ireland Hockey League second round match.
Glennane started the match bristling with intent as they took game to Banbridge for most of the first quarter. However, Banbridge were first on the scoresheet with David Finlay turning in a chance on the 10th minute to give the home team a 1 – 0 lead.

Glenanne hit back five minutes later with a penalty stroke converted by Shane O’Donoghue to take the score to 1 – 1 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams worked hard in an even second quarter but Glenanne had their timing just right as a late strike by Gavin Gibney put the visitors 1 – 2 up at half time.

Glenanne self imploded in the third quarter, spending an inordinate amount of time questioning the officials decisions and Banbridge took full advantage of their lack of focus as a fine strike across the D by Charlie Rowe hit the back of the net.

Disappointingly Glenanne continued to bicker throughout the third quarter and Banbridge added their third goal seven minute later. Louis Rowe’s strike, off a save by Glenanne’s keeper David Lawless, taking the score to 3 – 2 at the teams went into the final quarter.

Glenanne regained their composure in the final quarter and they tied the game from a penalty corner with O’Donoghue netting for the second time in a physical finale.
Both teams had chances in the final ten minutes but, with no further scores, the game ended as a 3 – 3 draw. On balance a fair result.
