Malone hosted City of Derry in an Ulster Senior Cup Quarter final at Gibson Park on Saturday afternoon.
Malone started well, picking up an early penalty from Rory Campbell to take a 3 – 0 lead.

Unfortunately Campbell had to leave the field shortly after and Armagh came storming back only to be held up over the line twice in the next 15 minutes. However, they got their breakthrough midway through the half with Matthew Hooks crossing out wide for an unconverted try to take the score to 3 – 5.

Armagh increased their lead before half time with hooker James Morton bundling over for a try. New signing Brayden Laing added the extras to take the score to Malone 3 City of Armagh 12 at half time.

Malone had a storming start to the second half with Matthew Crowther battling over for an unconverted try to take the score to 8 – 12 after a period of sustained pressure.

The Red Sox’s enjoyed a good period but a well taken intercept try by Armagh’s Dylan Nelson, converted by Laing, decided the game in the visitors favour with the score now at 8 – 19.

Malone pushed to get something out of the game for the rest of the half but Armagh held firm and were good value for their win.
