While I was having my day out in Armagh on Saturday I nipped back to Portadown to catch the first half of the Men’s Premier match between Portadown and Queen’s University.
Queen’s started the game well, full of energy and moving the ball about well and it was no surprise when they too the lead after three minutes thanks to a Harry Scott strike to take the score to 0 – 1.

Portadown began to work their way into the game and a fine trike by Ross Beattie pulled the score back to 1 – 1 seven minutes later.

The home team took control of the game in the second quarter with two goals in two minutes. The first came from a penalty corner strike by Ben Gordon which was closely followed by a fine strike from Matt Winter to take the score to 3 – 1 in Portadown’s favour.
Queen’s looked to battle back but there was no further score before half time when I had to head back to Armagh.
Portadown went on to win the game 5 – 2, the second Queen’s goal coming from No 13 Stephen Hamill.
