Provincial Premier: City of Armagh III 5 Belfast Harlequins II 19

My second game at City of Armagh rugby Club on Saturday with the Provincial Premier D1 match between Armagh 3rd XV and Belfast Harlequins 2nd XV.

I arrived over for the second half with the score at 5 – 7 in Quins favour. Armagh’s points came form a William Coleman try, Quins responding through a Tom McAllister try and a Charlie Beattie conversion.

Quin’s Charlie Beattie was on form with the boot.

Again, the game was played in very difficult conditions and Quin’s more experienced pack controlled proceedings in the second half, ably assisted by some astute kicking from Beattie.

The visitors parked themselves in Quins territory for the bulk of the second half. Difficult handling conditions saw a few chances go begging but also prevented Armagh from breaking out.

A disintegrating scrum sees Quins awarded a penalty try.

Quins extended their lead four minutes into the half with a series of high pressure scrums ending in a penalty try to the visitors to push the score out to 5 – 14.

Quins Adam finlay breaks from the scrum to go over in the corner.

Ten minutes later another scrum saw Quins No 8 Adam Finlay bundle over in the corner for an unconverted try to push the score to 5 – 19.

Armagh had to work hard to get out of their own territory.

The remainder of the game was played mostly between Armagh’s 22 and 10 meter line but there were no further scores, both teams probably happy to get back to the changing rooms at the final whistle.
