U16 Shield: Larne Grammar 50 Regent House 10

I caught the first half of the Schools U16 Shield match between Larne Grammar and Regent House on Wednesday afternoon at the Lower Cairncastle Road grounds.

The Grammar got off to the quickest of starts with a try from hooker Callum Duncan within a minute.

Regent looked to hit back almost immediately but despite coming very close, on a couple of occasions, they didn’t quite make it over the line and Larne broke out for Will Millar to score and convert to take the score to 12 – 0.

Ryan McDowell picked up a quick brace in the first half.

Two tries followed quickly from Ryan McDowell and with Millar converting the first the score rattled along to 24 – 0 for the home side.

Regent’s No 5 goes over for a first half score.

Regent got some reward for their efforts when their second row battled over out wide to take the score to 24 – 5 but larne had the final say in a busy first half with Millar completing his second try and conversion to take the score to 31 – 5 at half time.

Will Millar picked up 20 points from 2 tries and 5 conversions.

I had to leave at that point but Larne want on to score three more tries in the second half with Elliott Bagshaw, Dallan Bell and Ollie Reid all crossing, Millar converting two. regent also crossed for a second try to give a final score of Larne Grammar 50 Regent House 10.
