I nipped over from The Dub to Deramore Park on Sunday for my seventh game of the weekend which featured Belfast Harlequins against Ballynahinch in a Ulster women’s Premiership match.
I must say this was one of my favourites of the weekend thanks largely to Hinch’s Paige Smyth who exploded into action with a quick brace in the first five minutes to give the visitors a 0 – 10 lead.

A somewhat shell shocked Quins looked to respond but it was Hinch who were next to score with Jemima Johnston bursting through the centre to score under the posts. Shel Laffin added the extras to push the score out to 0 – 17.

Quins enjoyed a good period of pressure over the next 20 minutes and you could see their play improving dramatically throughout the game but the experienced Hinch side broke out for captain Rachel Morton to score just past the half hour mark to give Hinch a 0 – 22 lead.

The home side got their reward four minutes later with Rebecca Cousins going over to take the score to 5 – 22 at half time.

A strong second half deserved more of a reward for the young Quins side. Unfortunately, their good work was undone by a brace from Morton to complete her hat trick.
Jane Patton added another try at the end of the game to put a bit of icing on the scoreline which read Quins 5 Hinch 39 at full time, Laffin adding a second half conversion for the visitors.
