On Saturday afternoon the newly re-laid Queens Arena was the venue for the AIL1B clash between Queens and Dublin side, Old Wesley.
Defences dominated the 1st quarter. Both sides created opportunities but couldn’t finish them off. Wesley opened the scoring from a 19th minute, Ian Cassidy penalty goal but Queens replied within 2 minutes when James Humphreys penalty goal equalised.

Alexander Clarke’s 29th minute try and Humphreys conversion out Queens 10-3 up. The lead didn’t last long. Howard Noonan’s try and Cassidy’s conversion after 31 minutes tied the scores at 10-10.
A Humphreys penalty goal gave Queens a 13-10 halftime lead.
Thomas O’Callaghan’s 50th minute try, converted by Cassidy had Wesley leading 17-13.

A lineout maul was driven over, for Clarke to claim the touchdown on 53 minutes. Humphreys conversion put Queens back in the lead 20-17. A similar lineout, close to the Wesley line was butchered and it represented Queens last best scoring opportunity.

Thereafter Wesley dominated. Alex Molloy’s 57th minute try, Cronin Gleeson’s 72nd minute try and Will Fay’s 78th minute try, combined with 3 Cassidy conversions, moved Wesley out to 38-20.
A bonus point win, on the road, will make Wesley’s journey home even sweeter.
