Schools Cup: Carrickfergus Grammar 14 Antrim Grammar 5

We caught up with the Schools Cup Qualifying match between Carrickfergus Grammar and Antrim Grammar on Saturday morning.

The Antrim Grammar School team took an early 5-0 lead when their prop, Eoin Byrne, powered over through a crowd of defenders.

The Carrickfergus team regrouped and, after several periods of pressure in the Antrim half, they forced the Antrim team to concede a number of penalties. Ellis Branagh converted two of the penalty opportunities to give his team a 6-5 lead at halftime.

The home side extended their lead at the start of the second half. Good work from Jacob Craig, saw Joshua Oluwatula burst through to score an unconverted try to give his Carrick an 11 – 5 lead.

Branagh added a late penalty to secure a 14-5 victory for an elated Carrickfergus Grammar School team.
