Junior Cup: Queen’s University IV 5 Castle II 0

On Saturday, at lunchtime, Castle II were the visitors to The Dub, to play Queen’s University IV, in a Women’s Junior Cup game.

Defences were on top in the 1st quarter

In a scoreless 1st quarter defences were on top, making for a congested midfield.

Pippa Drummond opened the scoring for Queens, with the first of her two goals

Play began to open up in the 2nd quarter with both sides forcing penalty corners and troubling the keepers. The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minutes when Pippa Drummond rifled a shot home from open play. Queen’s led 1-0 at halftime.

Queens hit a purple patch in the 3rd quarter

Queens hit their straps in the 3rd quarter. Pressure resulted in goals from Zara Hannah, 35 minutes, Drummond, 40 minutes and Eilie Richmond, 42 minutes to give Queen’s a comfortable 4-0 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Though Castle responded with attacks in the 4th quarter, Queen’s remained on top. Pressure yielded a 55th minute goal from Leah Wilson.

Queen’s look forward to the next round on the back of an emphatic 5-0 victory.
