Women All Ireland: Pegasus 1 Pembroke Wanderers 2

I made the trip around the Outer Ring in reverse to get back to The Dub for Pegasus All Ireland League game with Pembroke Wanderers, from South Dublin. A low autumn sun now lit the ground, but no one should equate the sun with heat, it was cold! Pegasus were hoping to recover from their poor start to the season, against a mid-table Pembroke side.

Amy Kate Trevor’s shot was goal bound

After a very even start with both defences on top, Amy Kate Trevor’s goal from a penalty corner, in the closing moments of the quarter gave Pembroke a 1-0 lead.

Defences were well on top in a goalless 2nd quarter.

Pembroke increased their lead after 49 minutes when Sarah Young scored from open play to give Pembroke a 2-0 lead, which they took into the 4th quarter.

Pegasus hit back with a Sophie McDowell 4th quarter goal

A 55th minute Sophie McDowell strike from a penalty corner reduced the deficit to 1-2 and was the cue for Pegasus to throw the kitchen sink at the Pembroke defence.

Pegasus threw everything at the Pembroke defence

Pegasus failed to take any of the chances that they created. The Pembroke goal seemed charmed, and frustrations grew. Pembroke held on for a road win, while Pegasus languish 3rd from the table bottom.
