We caught up with the Top Four Clash in the Women’s Premiership, on Sunday afternoon at the Dub, both teams going into the game with three bonus point wins from three games.
I was expecting this to be a close and exciting match but Malone took control early in a disappointing error ridden game as both teams struggled for continuity.
The visitors got up and running on the 13th minute with a try from Anna Stafford after a period of pressure in the Queen’s half.

A try from Jill Stevens followed five minutes later to take the score to 0 – 10 in Malone’s favour.

Queen’s enjoyed a rare period of pressure in the Malone 22 which ended with Meabh Clenahan finding the line beside the posts for a try she converted herself to take the score to 7 – 10.

Unfortunately for Queen’s, Malone went straight back up the field for Lauren Maginnes to battle over, for Shirelle Wilson to convert, to take the score to 7 – 17 after 26 minutes.

Queen’s looked for a response but they struggled for continuity and Malone’s Emma Jordan crossed out wide late in the half to take the score to 7 – 22 as the teams changed ends.

The second half was particularly scrappy with the bulk of the play between the halfway line and Queen’s 22 but Malone did manage to add two more tries to their total.

Wilson added a try to her earlier conversion to take the score to 7 – 27 mid-way through the half and, Player of the Match, Maginnes added her second, with minutes to go, to give a final score of Queen’s University 7 Malone 32, the visitors recording their fourth bonus point win of the series.
