1st XI Superleague: Banbridge Academy 2 Strathearn School 0 Quarter Final

Banbridge Academy welcomed Strathearn School to Havelock Park on Thursday afternoon for a 1st XI Superleague Quarterfinal match.

I surprisingly, dry conditions, the home team started off strongest and quickly moved into the lead with a lovely deflected finish by No 6, Alyssa Somerville off a shot from Ellen Jack.

High fives from Alyssa Somerville for Ellen Jack after Banbridge’s first goal

Banbridge pressured throughout both first quarters but good defending and a brave goalkeeper kept the score to 1 – 0 until Somerville again drove into the circle and fired a shot past the keeper from the edge to take the score to 2 – 0 at half time.

The visitors were more determined as the third quarter began but the home defence were well drilled and in truth the Banbridge ‘keeper wasn’t really called into action.

Both teams created chances but it was stalemate mostly in the 3rd and 4th quarters with the Strathearn goal minder much the busier.

Strathearn’s keeper had a busy game.

Banbridge kept the score line to just the two goals and were worthy winners on the day.
