I caught up with the Junior 4 league match between Owls 2nd XI and Coleraine 3rd XI at Roughfort on Friday night.
It was an enjoyable game but it looked as though it was going to be a bit one sided as Owls rushed to a 2 – 0 lead in the first quarter.

The home team started brightly and Lauren Turner knocked in their first goal with a well placed shot form out wide after 4 minutes.
The home team continued to dominate proceedings and they got their second goal seven minutes later as Stacey McGookin converted a penalty corner to take the score to 2 – 0 as the teams went into the second quarter.

Coleraine looked to work their way into the game but Owls were still enjoying the lions share of possession and they added a third on the half hour mark as McGookin converted a second penalty corner.
However, with Owls perhaps thinking they had this one wrapped up, Coleraine sneaked one back a minute later with Susie Kinley scoring just before the half time break to take the score to 3 – 1 as the teams changed ends.

With Coleraine now attacking the end I was at, I started to notice this red and white blur passing frequently in front of the lens. Further examination found it to be Coleraine player Annie Magill who’s looping runs were not only distracting this cameraman but also the Owls defence.

Thanks to Magill’s boundless enthusiasm Coleraine started to find more room up front and they pulled back a second goal as Eva Creighton netted to take it to 3 – 2 at the end of the third quarter.

Coleraine were now on top and they continued to push forward in the final quarter and they got their reward in the closing minutes with Georgina Cochrane scoring their third to tie the game.

There was still time for a winner and the exciting game ended with a penalty corner for Coleraine on the final whistle. The shot was pushed just wide and the game ended as a 3 – 3 draw. On balance a fair result.
