Friendly: Friends School 2 Ballymena Academy 1

On Saturday morning I had the opportunity to take in the first half of the Schools Friendly between Friends School and Ballymena Academy. Both sides had narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Superleague Quarter Finals.

Friends started quickly pressurising their younger Ballymena visitors. Ballymena made rare incursions into the Friends ‘D’, while their defence soaked up the pressure. Despite Friends dominance it was scoreless at the end of the 1st quarter.

Emma Fraser opened the scoring from a penalty corner move

Friends broke through after 18 minutes. In a penalty corner move the ball was passed to Emma Fraser, who rifled her shot home for a 1-0 lead.

Chrissy Hopkins, far right, is congratulated on her goal

Though Ballymena had more of the play, Friends created more chances. In the 23rd minute Chrissy Hopkins turned in a shot at the far post to double Friends lead. It was 2-0 a halftime.

In the 2nd half Ballymena’s Lucy McAllister pulled one back for the visitors. The game ended in a 2-1 Friends victory.
