On Saturday morning I had the short walk from the hockey pitch to the rugby pitch, where Friends entertained, near neighbours, Dromore High School in a Schools Cup Group B fixture.

Dromore started faster, with their forwards controlling the game. They took the lead on 13 minutes, when Matthew Heasley got over on the right.

From the bright start Dromore seemed to lose their way. Friends came back into the game when Ethan Salt scored, for Harry Moore to convert for a 7-5 lead, which they took into half time.

A 39th minute Moore penalty goal moved Friends out to 10-5. Dromore rallied and created space for Joel Johnson to score wide out on the right and level the game at 10-10.
After a series of forward drives Alexander McKinley powered over midway out on the left. Moore’s conversion had Friends leading 17-10.
Dromore responded when Callum Bradley drove over from close range. Daniel Ennis McManus converted and again the scores were tied, this time at 17-17, after 54 minutes.
On 56 minutes Riley Murphy got on the end of a clever dink over the advancing Dromore defence, to ground the ball half a metre from the dead ball line. Once more Friends were back in the lead, 22-17.
Both sides had chances to score in the closing minutes but the score remained 22-17 in Friends favour.
