We caught up with the Women’s Senior League 2 match between Owls and Rainey at Roughfort on Saturday afternoon.
Rainey were fastout of the blocks, attacking right from the starting whistle and were first on the scoresheet too with No 5, Georgina McGuckin latching on to Owl’s goalkeeper’s clearance to slot home.
The visitors kept pressing and were soon 2 up with McGuckin driving home from mid circle to take the score to 0 -2.

Owls were under considerable pressure but it wasn’t until mid way through the second quarter that Rainey’s No 3, Evie Duncan got their third to take it to 0 – 3.

Owls bolstered their defence and had a few forays upfield but there was no further score before half time the teams turning round with Owls chasing the 3 goal deficit.
Rainey continued where they left off and attack after attack came at Owls. Good defending kept them out until the mid point of the third quarter when No 14, Sara McClure drove the ball home for Rainey’s fourth goal.

Owls doggedly tried to fight back but McGuckin completed her hat trick in the 4th quarter with a finely taken goal and not long after, Emma McClure rounded things off for the visitors with the sixth and final goal.
