On Saturday morning Blackrock College were the visitors to Osborne to play Royal Belfast Academical Institution.
From kick off Blackrock set up camp in the Inst half. By drawing Inst players in to rucks and mauls, they created space out wide. Only ferocious and sometimes last gasp tackling by Inst prevented scores.

Eventually the dam broke after 16 minutes, when Charlie Maloney cut back inside, after space was created on the left, to score. Conor O’Shaughsey’s conversion had Blackrock leading 7-0.
Inst had territory and possession but couldn’t make it count, with Blackrock’s aggressive defence turning the ball over, at vital times.

On 25 minutes Brian O’Flaherty got just enough space to dive in at the left corner to move Blackrock out to 12-0, the halftime score.
A 39th minute penalty goal from O’Shaughsey, opened the 2nd half scoring and put Blackrock 15-0 up.
Inst continued to run at Blackrock but couldn’t break the defensive wall. Johnny O’Sullivan’s 53rd minute try, converted by O’Shaughsey, put Blackrock comfortably 22-0 ahead.

Charlie Woodcock’s 62nd try completed Blackrock’s scoring. At 27 – 0 it was an impressive victory for the southern visitors. Inst couldn’t compete with their cohesion and co ordination in attack and defence.
