On Tuesday evening Ireland U21 faced Scotland U21 in Game Two of the Four Game Uniphar U21 Series at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

Having lost Game One 1 – 0 to the Irish girls, Scotland set about the task of equalling the series from push back. They swarmed the Irish defence, preventing the ball being played up to midfield. The Irish were not allowed to settle before a pair of Scottish forwards closed down options. The Irish attack was starved of the ball and could mount few meaningful attacks.

Aoife Glennon was kept busy in the Irish goal

Eventually the Irish defence cracked, when Izzy Usher found space in the ‘D’, to open the scoring for Scotland after 13 minutes. Scotland led 1-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Play in the Irish ‘D’ was, at times, frantic

The 2nd quarter was much the same, with Scotland dominating. Ciara Forgie’s 22nd minute goal doubled their lead and gave Scotland a 2-0 halftime lead.

Irish Captain, Jenna McCarlie, scored a 3rd quarter goal

Ireland had more of the play in the 3rd quarter and troubled the Scottish keeper, but Scotland still had the upper hand in territory and possession. Irish captain, Jenna McCarlie pulled a goal back for Ireland, in the 42ndminute, to leave Ireland 1-2 down at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Ireland had a few promising attacks in the 4th quarter but the Scottish defence held firm in a scoreless quarter.

Game Three continues the Uniphar Series, this evening, now tied 1-1.
