We caught up with Belfast Harlequins and Queen’s University Women’s sides in a Premiership match at Deramore Park early on Sunday afternoon.
We used the match as a training match for one of our trainee photographers and the teams produced plenty of action for our photographer to work with.

Queen’s were quick out of the blocks with a try in the first minute as Rebecca Mann crossed out wide for an unconverted try to give Queen’s a 0 – 5 lead.

Quins enjoyed a period of possession with some strong carries down the middle but they struggled with the width that Queen’s looked to put on their game and the student’s wingers had some joy with Emma McArdle crossing for 2 tries. Rachel McIlroy grabbed one from close range before right wing Aoife McCormack went over for her first.

Alex McIlwaine converted on to take the score to 0 – 27 after 30 minutes.
McIlroy got a second score just past the half hour mark and the hard working Sophie Hipson crossed shortly after. Kaitlyn Graham was next to score and McArdle crossed for her hat-trick before half time, McIlwaine added three conversions to take the score to 0 – 53 as the teams changed ends.

Queen’s added two more in a shortened second half with Rebecca Deans and Abby Sheridan both crossing before the game was called as a 0 – 60 win for Queen’s.
Despite the scoreline it was a good work out for Quins who had nine players making their debut. We look forward to following their progress throughout the season.
