The newly laid pitch at Havelock Park was the venue for Wednesday’s 1st XI Superleague fixture between Banbridge Academy and close rivals Wallace High School. The threatened heavy rain thankfully turned out to be a prolonged light shower. However it was dank, overcast and cool.

Both sides showed early season rustiness with passes going astray and neither team asserting themselves. The scoreless 1st quarter ended with Wallace defending a rare penalty corner, before the ball soared over the bar.

As neither team could impose themselves, the midfield became evermore crowded, with few passes making it up to the forward lines. It was scoreless at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter both keepers were called into action, but defences were on top as scoring shots were hard to find. It remained 0-0.

Attacks were more animated in the 4th quarter, as both sides sought a winner. There were close calls at both ends but no one could find the scoring touch. As time ran out Wallace survived a series of penalty corners before the ball sailed wide.
On the balance of play a 0-0 draw was a fair result for both sides.
