We caught up with Banbridge Hockey Club as they started their defence of the All Ireland EYHL on Saturday afternoon against Dublin’s YMCA at Havelock Park.

It was a tight first half as the teams reacquainted themselves, and it was YMCA who opened the scoring at the start of the second quarter with a goal from Fionn Marriott, taking the score to 0-1. This lead was maintained by the visitors going into the second half

The Banbridge pressure eventually paid off at the start of the third quarter, with the home side awarded a penalty stroke which was converted by Jake Rowe to tie the score at 1 – 1.
The home team began to cut loose with Louis Lowe and Josh Moffatt taking the score to 3 – 1 as the teams went into the final quarter.

YMCA regained their composure at the start of the fourth period. However, as they pulled their keeper in search of more goals, the visitors were caught on the break. Two late goals from Matthew McKee and Owen Magee saw Banbridge start their Championship defence with a resounding 5-1 win at the final hooter.
