I caught up with one of the final round of the 1st XI Superleague group stage matches early on Saturday morning as Sullivan Upper entertained Rainey Endowed at their Belfast Road pitch.
Rainey, who were looking to win the group, went on the attack from the pass back but they were unable to break down the determined Sullivan defence and the home team began to create a few breakouts as the first quarter progressed.

Sullivan enjoyed more possession in an even second quarter but neither side was on target up front than the teams went into the second half with the score at 0 – 0.
The visitors made their break through at the start of the third quarter with Ulster star Evie Duncan on target to give Rainey a 0 – 1 lead.
Sullivan looked for a response and they found it almost immediately with a great strike from Lucy Andrews to take the score to 1 – 1 as the teams went into the final quarter.

Both teams went looking for a winner and it was Rainey that found it, despite some outstanding work in nets from Sullivan keeper Lucy Sloan.
The goal came when a base line cross from Isla Graham was turned in by Kate Skillan to take the score to 1 – 2.

Sullivan pushed hard for an equaliser with some driving runs through the centre from Emily Walls but the Rainey defence held firm for a 1 – 2 win.
