I finished off my Saturday with a trip to Shaw’s Bridge for the All Ireland Women’s match between Cooke and Suttonians.
Unfortunately for the home team it was pretty much one way traffic on the scoreboard as Suttonians wrapped up the bonus point before half time.
The visitors went over for the first try after 5 minutes the impressive Leomie Kloppers battling for the line close to the posts for a 0 – 5 lead.
Minutes later centre Meabh O’Brien burst clear down the wing to round the defence and finish close to the posts to take it to 0 – 10.
Cooke enjoyed a period of pressure but they didn’t take care of the ball and Suttonians scrum half Lauren Farrell McCabe wriggled to the line for their third try, this one converted by Aoife Brennan to take the score to 17 – 0 after 15 minutes.
Cooke finally found their shape and it was another 20 minutes before Suttonians crossed for their bonus point try as Peita McAlister bundled over out wide. No conversion leaving the score at 0 – 22 as the teams changed ends.
Cooke had some good play at the start of the second half and should have finished off a move down the left. Unfortunately there was no problems finishing off for Sutts as Emma Jordan ran in their fifth try on the 50th minute to take the score to 0 – 27.
I called it a day at that point as the light was fading fast but Sutts ran in three more with Farrel McCabe crossing for her second and Mary Healy and Lena Kibler each scored one. Graine Tummon added a conversion to take the final score to Cooke 0 Suttonians 44.
